Deviant Behavior

OK, admit it. Come clean. Secretly, you are a dirty-minded, sex-obsessed creature, aren’t you? Fetishes, Fascinations, Hang-ups, Freudian Fantasies, Perversions…these and more will be explored at the Deviant Behavior Art Exhibit, opening First Friday, February 2nd.

Wait just a minute now; this is an actual Fine Art Exhibit, filthy as it might be; bending the line between Art & Pornography. Which is it? You be the judge. This exhibit will showcase the naughty works of Denver Professional Artists M Vlasic, Anthony Camera, Raoul DeSoto & Valerie & Jonathan Nicklow. The front room will titillate you with barely “PC” works, while the segregated backroom will be 18 & over (ID required) & will strip from you a $2 entrance fee.

ENTERTAINMENT
We are tickled pink to provide for your stimulation the incredible Body Art of REAL PAINT Artist Jesse Hodge. You won’t believe the amazing outfits the sexy ladies are wearing are painted on.

DJs Milk & Yahya will pimp the decks and school the woofers & tweeters in talking filthy.

There will be many lascivious surprises in store throughout the evening. Check www.myspace.com/deviantbehaviorartshow for updates on entertainment and other smutty delights being added to the show.

Breakin’ Through to the Next Level

Posted in Culture by milk

Way back in the 70s, Kool Herc ignited the cultural phenomenon of hip hop by importing the Jamaican traditions of “toasting” and sound systems to New York. Thirty years later, hip hop has indisputably become the dominantly influential form of music. Graffiti art, the urban visual expression of hip hop, increasingly manifests itself mainstream culture yet remains dynamically creative, as documented by the “lowbrow” art journal Juxtapoz. And breakdancing can no longer be discounted as just a fad. Evolving as much as the other forms of hip hop, it’s taking over the world, as evidenced by this freakin’ amazing video:

Sound and the Fury

Posted in Art by milk

I fortuitously experienced the traveling ‘What Color Does a Sound Make” exhibition before it skipped town. The phenomenon of seeing colors when hearing sounds - known as synesthesia - is unique to small percentage of individuals. But most people can instinctively sense that some specific imagery better complements sound. That’s what this exhibit seemed to focus on.

My favorite works were the single channel projector installation rooms by Granular-Synthesis and the D:Fuse / Scanner collaboration. I had not heard any of Scanner’s work for several years, but it was perfect accompaniment for the bouncing diffracted mandala of distorted stoplight footage composed by the D:Fuse group. The sign on the door to LUX - by Granular-Synthesis - cautioned anyone susceptible to epilepsy and motion sickness. This immersive installation seemed very abstract yet organic, and reminded me of a 35×35 monitor videowall (over a thousand TV sets) that once “breathed” on me at the World Expo in Sevilla.

Very cool to see this kaleidoscope of consciousness, created by the world’s leading audio-visual artists, in Denver. In addition to the two environments described above, many of the other installations were equally inspiring. Seems that the D:Fuse and Granular-Synthesis works are available on DVD, I’ll be picking those up directly to share with friends.

. . . to the interfunkanational sonic life of DJ Milk.

We’re just spinning it up right now, keeping it chill on the down-low, feeling the groove, next we gonna say funk it, we gots to turn the party up, see how you like freakin’ it wildstyle, maybe a bit rough, a little wicked. Then we’ll sparkle the synaesthesia light fantastic with some jazzy wind chimes. Last but not least. . . the fat lady sings. Can you dig it?

Come back & visit again. We’re gonna load this mother up with some mixes for your earhole pleasure. Bang it out with the events calendar. And fire up the mailing list, so you need not be a stranger.
